About Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapists enable people living with a range of health problems and chronic conditions to overcome barriers so they can participate in everyday life and improve their health and wellbeing.

How people benefit from Occupational Therapy in Primary Care:

  • improve confidence and ability to manage their own health condition(s) and daily life
  • increase the number of occupations they are able to engage in
  • support to remain safe and live independently at home
  • early intervention to prevent situations becoming a crisis
  • increased uptake of services and support available
  • return to work or remaining in employment

How your practice can benefit from Occupational Therapy:

  • reduce the number of repeat GP appointments and home visits
  • timely responses to prevent crisis situations
  • support patients to stay at home and avoid unnecessary admissions to hospital
  • appropriate referral on to other services
